The Management of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the Student Union have raised the Ukrainian flag on the Flag Plaza on the Mount Scopus Campus as a sign of solidarity with the people of the Ukraine. Raising the flag wishes to send a message of strength and support for Ukraine which is enduring the second week of an aggressive invasion by the Russian army.
Professor Asher Cohen, President of the Hebrew University noted that: “Raising the flag constitutes an important statement that for our part the Hebrew University will not remain indifferent in light of the disaster taking place in the Ukraine, and that we send a message of strength and strong support for the people of the Ukraine. Our hearts are with the Ukrainian people who suffer terribly from incredible barbaric behavior.”
It should be noted that immediately upon the beginning of the war, the Office of the Dean of Students of the Hebrew University offered assistance to the students with personal or family distress due to the situation: beginning with economic assistance, emotional support and to the extent of postponing submission of academic work. In addition, due to the threat to the lives of the members of the academy in Ukraine, and out of solidarity, the Hebrew University is offering academic hospitality to members of the staff and students for advanced degrees.
Ukrainian citizens who are undergraduate students who study in academic institutions in Ukraine are invited to study, without payment, courses taught in English and courses in the Hebrew language through the Rothberg International School at the Hebrew University. The invitation is to stay at the University for a period of up to four months with the option of a scholarship and a place in the dormitories without payment on the basis of available space.
In addition, Ukrainian citizens who are researchers as well as students for masters and doctorate degrees that study in academic institutions in the Ukraine, are invited to continue their research activity within the framework of the Hebrew University. The invitation is for staying at the University for a period of up to four months, during which the appropriate guests will be offered a scholarship and room in the dormitories without pay for a period of four months.
